October 5, 2015

Happy Monday,

Happy first week of October! This month is full of healthy initiatives that your department can take full advantage of during the next couple weeks. The weather is perfect temperature to remain active and participate in outdoor activities. First, International Walk/Bike to School Day takes place this Wednesday, October 7th. My previous blog discusses the importance of walking and how your department can become involved in this event. Secondly, October celebrates National Health Education Week, taking place October 19th– 23rd.

National Health Week has been around since 1995 and takes place during the third full week of October. This week-long celebration focuses attention on public health issues and promotes the importance of health education in your community. My current blog discusses ways your department and community can become involved in this week-long event. NCRPA’s challenge to you is to become more creative when advocating a balanced and healthy lifestyle. The National Health Education Week is a great way to get started. More information on the National Health Education Week activities can be found here.

One last note, our next webinar will take place this Thursday, October 8th, at1:00pm. Derek Dunn and Sharon Williams, Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department, will be hosting. The topic will focus on creating a more inclusive outdoor recreation environment for persons with disabilities. It is important to offer equal opportunities for everyone, and as practitioners, part of our tasks is creating the ultimate recreation experience. Please click the following link to register:
