Parks, Recreation and Outside Play - Wellness Summit

Join us on Wednesday, October 9th for our Parks, Recreation, and Outside Play Wellness Summit! This one day summit brings together parks and recreation professionals, health care providers, outdoor industry stakeholders, and academic scholars to discuss the health benefits of parks and recreation and outside play. Two panel and facilitated roundtable discussions will take place during this full-day affair, centered around partnerships between different sectors and providing equal access to resources for all members of our communities. Learn best practices and success stories from industry leaders on how to positively impact the health of your communities!

This event will be held in the Raleigh at the Pullen Community Center. 

 

Registration $55 - includes coffee, lunch and snacks.
NCRPA Student Members $15.

 

 

Panel Sessions: 

Health and Recreation (9:30 - 12:00):

Learn about the intersections of parks, recreation, and outdoor play with public health outcomes! Through learning about innovative programs such as  Bull City Fit , Walk with A Doc, and New Hanover County ParkRx, attendees will learn best practices and success stories of recreation-based health initiatives.

Kirsten Ambrose, M.S.  - University of North Carolina

Jodi Rich - New Hanover County Parks and Gardens

Aaron Hipp, Ph.D. - NC State University (Moderator)


Building Healthy Communities (1:00 - 3:30):

Providing access to parks and recreation to different segments of our communities is important to positively affect community health. This panel will provide examples of utilizing the built environment, cooperative extension, and special populations to impact community health.


Panelists include:

Melissa Rockett - NC Division of Public Health Built Environment Coordinator

Nicolle Miller - UNC-A NC Center for Health & Wellness Director of State & Community Collaboration

Yvonne Murphy - NC State Cooperative Extension

Workshop Format:

Panels will last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, followed by a short break. After the break, the event will turn into a 45 minute "round table" discussion, where workshop attendees have the opportunity to mingle with the panelists around structured topics. Finally, each round table will report out as to what their group discussed for the last 15 minutes of the session.

Workshop Member Rates Information

NCRPA offers members a discounted rate on most educational workshops.  To receive this rate, you must first log into your membership account and then register for the event.  If you register at the nonmember rate and pay by credit card, we will gladly refund the difference minus a $5 processing fee.  If you need a refund or assistance with any registration please email info@ncrpa.net.
