This summer Billy Wilkes, Assistant Director with Craven County Parks & Recreation was announced as the winner of the Jan Parker NRPA Congress Scholarship. This new scholarship was funded with revenue generated through the NCRPA Visa Debit Card in cooperation with the Local Government Federal Credit Union. Billy’s scholarship included congress registration and $200 towards travel and lodging expenses. NCRPA staff was able to catch up with Billy at congress and it was evident that he was both humbled and excited for the opportunity. In his application, Billy stated, “My passion for the parks and recreation field is really simple. I enjoy giving back to a field that has given me so much. From a young age, I played every sport imaginable, attended any camps and special events when offered and was a fixture at the local recreation center. Parks and Recreation truly kept me out of trouble. I love being part of a field that can positively affect the lives of people of all ages”. Many thanks to everyone who uses their NCRPA Visa Debit Card and helps us fund initiatives such as this. If you don’t have the NCRPA Visa Debit Card and would like more information on how to get yours, visit or contact the NCRPA office.
