Happy first day of February,
In celebration of a new month and hopefully warmer days ahead, my blog focuses on February being American Heart Month. American Heart Month is relevant to the Wellness Initiative in more ways than one. My past blogs have discussed healthy eating, employee wellness, and physical activity, which ultimately impacts the health of your heart! Part of our duty as recreation and park professionals is to provide information to our community on topics that enable them to live healthy lifestyles
According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, heart disease is one of the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. Heart disease can be caused by a stroke, stress, unhealthy eating habits and high blood pressure. However, heart disease can be prevented when people start making conscious health decisions and manage their health conditions. Throughout the month of February, we can help our communities, departments and families to learn how to fight heart disease. Read my blog for more information, ideas and tips for American Heart Month.
Our next Wellness Webinar will be Tuesday, February 9th, hosted by Jill Edwards and Diana McCall, of Black Mountain Recreation and Parks. Jill and Diana will be discussing their Eat Smart Black Mountain program. Black Mountain has been extremely successful in creating and maintaining their community gardens and offering healthy eating education. The Eat Smart Black Mountain program works to promote healthy eating and active living through hands-on gardening and nutritious programs.Register for the webinar to learn more how you can impact your community with a garden like Black Mountains: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/7113675677016197121
Lastly, NC Recre8’s statewide 5k is excited to announce registration is now live! The race will take place on Saturday, April 16, at various locations across North Carolina. Click the following link for more information and to check if there are any race locations by you: www.ncparkrun.com.
