September 17th, 2014

The 2014 NCRPA Annual Conference is being held in beautiful Historic Downtown Wilmington and is less than a week away! The 2014 Conference Committee and our office has been hard at work, prepping the last minute details for what will be a great event. The conference will have plenty of educational, networking and social events to choose from, but we also have ways for you to stay physically active during your stay.

On Monday, 9/22, at 7am, we will be holding a body sculpting session, meeting in the lower lobby of the Hilton Riverside. Body sculpting is a type of strength training that combines both flexibility and cardiovascular with low pound weights. A person of any fitness level can participate in this activity while focusing on shaping and toning the body.

Tuesday, 9/23, at 7am, a yoga session will be meeting in the lower lobby of the Hilton Riverside. Yoga is a great morning exercise, focusing on breath control, mediation, stretching and relaxed bodily postures.

Both classes are a great way to start your morning actively. Please note that participants should wear aerobic attire and bring a water bottle to the classes. If you like to work out more independently, explore Wilmington’s scenic Riverwalk, a boardwalk along the Cape Fear River stretching for over a mile. Get up early to go for a walk or a jog. Additionally, if you are staying at either the Hilton Wilmington Riverside or the Courtyard Wilmington Downtown, both offer a fitness room with free weights and cardiovascular equipment. There are plenty of options to be involved and active during our NCRPA conference!

Remember to stay hydrated during the day by bringing your favorite water bottle to refill from one of the many water coolers or water fountains located throughout the Wilmington Conference Center. Don’t worry, if you forget yours, we may have some extra on hand…

Lastly, I will be holding a “Wellness Initiative Year in Review” session during the conference. Please feel free to stop by to learn about the successes of this past year, as well as ideas for this coming year. My goal is for everyone at the session to understand the goals, vision, and productivity of the Wellness initiative. Check out a preview of the conference program to start planning your workouts and educational sessions!

Looking forward to meeting all of you,

Colleen Dougherty
