Join NCRPA in Cabarrus County for the NCRPA Programming Workshop. This workshop is for any and all programmers in the field of parks and recreation. The workshop will feature sessions on programming for youth, teenagers, and active older adults. Sessions will be interactive, hands on, and provide unique program ideas and takeaways to implement in your department. The same exact workshop and slate of speakers will be offered in Wendell on 3/14; please be sure confirm you are signing up for the correct location when registering.

Cost is $55 for NCRPA members; lunch is included, and attendees will earn up to 0.4 ceus.

Workshop Schedule

9:30am - 10:45am - Session One: Take Aim at the Young at Heart: Programming for Active Older Adults 
Presented by Susan Donaldson and Byron Haigler Cabarrus County Active Living and Parks

Join in thrilling activities designed to engage the older adult. Participants can take back “programs in a box” to implement in their facilities. Boxes will include indoor archery, small group personal training and more. Following the session, participants will be able to identify and break down barriers about older adult abilities, recognize varied interests of older adults, and replicate successful programs for older adults.

11:00am - 12:15pm - Session Two: Programming and Marketing Strategies for Today's Teens 
Presented by Jerome Johnson, Durham Parks and Recreation

This session will allow program administrators the opportunity discuss and share a variety of effective marketing strategies to create awareness of program offerings. This session will introduce the audience to successful non-traditional marketing strategies to promote their recreational programs including cultural arts, camps, educational programs etc. that appeal to teens who otherwise have little to no interest in traditional recreation activities.

1:15pm - 3:30pm - Session Three: Programming for Youth
Presented by Joey Voska, Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources

In learning how to program for preschool and youth populations we will focus on two different areas: how to program for Youth when out of school and how to offer programs opportunities for preschool and youth using instruction led programs. Participant will learn how to plan and implement out of school programs. Participants will also learn how to plan and implement instructor led programs for preschool and youth.
