Workshop Schedule

9:00am - 10:15am - Session One: Turf and Athletic Field Maintenance on a Budget
Presented by Dr. Grady Miller, NC State University Crop and Soil Sciences Department

When working with a limited maintenance budget, what are the most important things you should do? If you have limited money, what should you spend it on and what can you easily eliminate? How can you control costs and still give a good product? This session will answer all of these questions and more. This session will provide a insight into common problems faced due to reduced expenditure, a better understanding of prioritizing cost saving measures, and informational tools related to field management.

10:30am - 11:45am - Session Two: Baseball Infield Maintenance
Presented by John Ferguson, Profile Products

This session will cover many of the skills and essential aspects of baseball infield maintenance: mound renovation, infield drainage, home plate maintenance, and lip management. By the end of the session, attendees will have a better understanding of what tricks and techniques to use in order to keep their ballfields in top shape.

11:45am - 12:45pm - Lunch

12:45pm - 2:00pm - Session Three: Protecting Pollinators in Parks
Presented by Cliff Ruth, Buncombe County Cooperative Extension

This session will cover how to provide pollenator habitat/food while utilizing the appropriate practices in managing unwanted pests. It will discuss the over-arching threats involved in the loss of habitat for pollenators and the results of losing these important organisms and how we can encourage and protect them through best management practices. The session will cover the different types of pollenators and the purpose and reason that they should be protected in parks.
