Join NCRPA for the 2017 Supervisors' Workshop in Statesville. We are excited to offer a whole new slate of speakers for 2017. The workshop is for any and all supervisors in the field of parks and recreation. Sessions will include Creating a Passionate Workforce, Motivating Staff Through Team Building, Leading Today’s Professional Recreators, and a Panel discussion on leadership.
Cost is $55 for NCRPA members; lunch is included, and attendees will earn up to 0.4 CEUs. The sessions will be very interactive and engaging!

9:30am -10:45am: Leading Today’s Professional Recreators; The Shepherd Way - Paul Moore, Davie County Parks and Recreation
Do you truly love the Park and Recreation profession? How do others feel about you as a leader/supervisor? Maybe deep down, the idea of supervising people scares you to death. Or maybe you feel that you have the natural gift of supervising and know all the tricks of the trade….Do you? This fast paced session will discuss ways in which you can lead and invest in the people around you, so that they have belonging, true purpose and a calling rather than merely a job with a paycheck. Leadership isn’t just about setting direction. Through real life situations using your own department as an example; understand the precepts of infusing your work with meaning and how to engage and energize your workforce. Your ultimate test is: Can you get your workforce and organization where you want it to go?

Why is a passionate workforce so important in today’s world? What can we do as leaders to help our staff identify their passion? How do we develop a workforce that is passionate about our organization? These questions and more will be answered in this session.

12:40pm - 1:55pm: Motivating Staff Through Team Building - Michelle Hepler, Director, Iredell County Parks and Recreation
Attendees will learn the benefits of developing individuals into high functioning teams. Topics will cover the fundamentals of building successful teams – including trust development, the importance of effective communication, and empowering others to utilize their skill sets as resources to the team. Content will identify different types of teambuilding, including goal focused programs, shared experiences, and special events.
2:00pm - 3:15pm: Leadership Panel
Our speakers will share how they have found success in their organization and answer questions from attendees.
