2016 Supervisors' Workshop: We are excited to offer a whole new slate of speakers for 2016. The workshop is for any and all supervisors in the field of park and recreation. The first session will be led by Ken Hisler and will focus on leadership and supervision. After lunch, Phil Fleischmann will present on ways to motivate your team. To close out the day Rob Smith will lead an interactive workshop on the art of asking questions. Hosted By Wilson Parks and Recreation - More details below.

Continuing on the success of last year’s Supervisors' Workshop we are excited to offer a whole new slate of speakers for 2016.  Lunch is included and attendees will earn up to 0.4 ceus. All three sessions will be very interactive and engaging! If March does not work for your schedule this same workshop will be offered on August 23rd in the Winston-Salem area.

Leadership and Supervision
Ken Hisler - Recreation Superintendent, Raleigh Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources
Introduce the fundamentals, principles and interrelationship of management, supervision, and leadership; to provide practical applications and to motivate the student to improve their supervisory and leadership skills. 0.2 ceus

Motivating Your Team
Phil Fleischmann, CPRE - Community Recreation Services Division Manager, Greensboro Parks & Recreation
Does your team need that little “push” to get them through the season? Learn about the reasons why it’s important to recognize your staff and volunteers and discuss ideas on cost effective ways to do so.  Session will include a discussion on theories of motivation as well as strategies to meet the motivational needs of your staff. Come prepared to share your best, tested staff motivation ideas and success stories with attendees!

The Inquisitive Supervisor

My grandfather taught me that the person who knows how will always have a job, and inevitably, the person who knows why will be their supervisor. In this session, we will explore the art of asking questions. From open ended inquiries to carefully crafted follow ups, effective questioning can become one of a supervisors most powerful tools.
