Did you know the NC Connect bond package includes $78 million for parks in NC? The answer is yes there is $75M for state park projects and $3M for local parks? While $3M is a smaller part of the overall picture and is not getting much coverage in the media, we wanted to make sure you knew. With passage of the bond on March 15, the $3M will be allocated to the Parks & Recreation Trust Fund and shall be used exclusively for grants to local government units or public authorities for construction of special facilities or adaptation of existing facilities that meet the unique needs of children with physical and developmental disabilities and veterans with physical and developmental disabilities and enable them to participate in recreational and sporting activities, regardless of their abilities. In order to receive such proceeds a local government unit or public authority shall provide matching funds in the amount of one dollar ($1.00) of local funds for every four dollars ($4.00) of such proceeds. Grants shall not exceed five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) per project.
This grant would operate as a separate process and with a separate timeline through the Parks & Recreation Trust Fund. Announcements and information will be shared pending passage of NC Connect on March 15. For information on NC Connect, visit http://connect.nc.gov/ or https://www.voteyestoinvest.com/
