During the month of July, NCRPA started The Parks Baton project (#ParksBaton), a collaborative photo experience showing the nation how awesome recreation and parks people and places are all through the sharing of Instagram! The Parks Baton lasted the month of July in order to celebrate parks and recreation month by showing the lives of the people who work in our field!
The project was so successful that NCRPA extended the project to a once a week project. Beginning this month, NCRPA will feature a new baton carrier each Thursday! If you are interested, then please click the following link to review the instructions/rules and to fill out the sign-up form! Remember, photographers can range in expertise from amateur to professional! The idea is show your lifestyle from your own perspective, so don’t be shy! It is up to you to create and inspire others!
Connecting the Parks Baton to the Wellness Initiative, there are plenty of opportunities for your department to become involved! Encourage your staff to sign-up to promote a healthy lifestyle! Some ideas can include posting pictures of playing an intramural sport, morning yoga classes, mountain biking, or run/walk groups in community parks, the ideas are endless! Or you can share photos of healthy meals and recipes, such as a mid-day snack, dinners or healthy desserts! You can even post pictures of you and your friends working in a community garden; which includes both physical activity and healthy food choices. There are plenty of opportunities to showcase how to lead a healthy and active life using #ParksBaton! Inspire others to create their own healthy life.
